Fascias and Soffits Explained
Although most people know what guttering is, the terms ‘fascias’ and ‘soffits’ are not quite so widely known. So, what are they and what is their purpose?
Fascias: The fascia board sits right below the roof trusses and supports the bottom of the roof. It is also the board that the guttering is attached to, so has to be strong and well-maintained, particularly if you are in an area of heavy rainfall.
Soffits: The soffit lives under the fascia board, and is predominantly what you see when you look up. Because of this, it is important to keep it looking good and maintain it regularly. It can also be used as part of the ventilation system into the roof area, helping to ensure the roof space doesn’t rot.
